SCI-Arc’s Main Event 2020 Promises an Evening to Remember

SCI-Arc is thrilled to announce that its sixteenth annual Main Event gala and exhibition preview of Spring Show will take place this May. SCI-Arc Main Event 2020, which will be held on May 2 at SCI-Arc’s campus in downtown LA’s Arts District, is the most glittering and lively affair of the academic year, supporting the SCI-Arc Scholarship Endowment. At the gala guests can enjoy drinks, music, and alimentary fare, all while experiencing an exclusive site-specific multimedia installation and performance that will be unlike anything ever seen before at SCI-Arc. Main Event brings together alumni and friends as well as leading designers, builders, and creative professionals to celebrate SCI-Arc's reputation as a world-renowned center for innovation and architectural thinking.

In addition to a stunning celebration of SCI-Arc’s continuing excellence in providing the highest quality architectural education, Main Event previews the newest and strongest work from SCI-Arc’s undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate programs in Spring Show. Bold displays of design studio projects from each of the school’s programs will be presented in a dynamic and unexpected environment highlighting the aesthetic power of current architectural experimentation at SCI-Arc.

Curated by History + Theory faculty member John Cooper, in conjunction with Main Event 2020’s theme around a visual and intellectual carte du jour, this year’s Spring Show will include avant-garde new work from students, demonstrating the school’s deep and lasting drive to innovate the medium of architecture in unprecedented ways. Guests will be enveloped by films and animations projected onto studio walls, surrounded by the progressive, radical, and experimental work of SCI-Arc students. Activated by a spectacular procession, students’ architectural models will inherit their cultural power through an ephemeral performative moment that is not to be missed. While enjoying the fruits of SCI-Arc’s academic and discursive labor from over the past year, guests can lounge in themed bar areas throughout the event.
