Congratulations to This Year's Scholarship Winners

As a means of attracting the best and brightest students from around the world, each year SCI-Arc awards a number of merit- and need-based scholarships to its applicants. The school extends its congratulations to this year’s scholarship winners, who are listed below.

Each Scholarship Winners from 2018

Viviano Villarreal-Bueron of SCI-Arc’s Design Theory and Pedagogy program is the recipient of the BECA SCI-Arc Mexico scholarship, which provides one Mexican citizen full tuition for two semesters. He is both a photographer and an architect, and in 2015 founded the Hong Kong- and Monterrey, Mexico-based firm MASS OPERATIONS. He holds a Bachelors Degree of Science in Architecture and Design from the University Tec de Monterrey University in conjunction with Universidad Politécnica de Catalunya in Barcelona. He has taught at both Hong Kong University and Tec de Monterrey University’s Taller Vertical Design Studio, and lectured throughout Mexico and China.

Sofia Ospina is the recipient of the COLFUTURO loan-scholarship for graduate studies, a $50,000 award given jointly by SCI-Arc and Bogotá-based Fundacion para el Futuro de Colombia Bogotá. Ospina earned her undergraduate degree in architecture with a minor in design from Bogotá’s Los Andes University, which included a student exchange program with the Escola Tècnica Superior d'Arquitectura de Barcelona, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. After completion of her degree, Ospina worked in Bogotá-based firms including El Equipo Mazzanti, Arquint and Enrique Ramirez Arquitectos as a junior architect. She is currently enrolled in SCI-Arc’s Architectural Technologies program.

Grigorios Kokkotis is the recipient of the SCI-Arc EU Scholarship, which covers the full tuition of the Master of Architecture 2 program for a citizen of the European Union. Kokkotis hails from Athens, and holds an undergraduate degree from the Manchester School of Architecture. Prior to enrolling at SCI-Arc, he interned at both Ateliers Jean Nouvel in Paris and Atelier Manferdini in Los Angeles.

Alma Sofia Ramos is the recipient of the LAUSD Scholarship, a full-tuition, merit-based award for incoming freshmen from the Los Angeles Unified School District. She is a graduate of the Ramón C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts, and is currently enrolled in the B. Arch program.
