SCI-Arc Launches Cleantech Corridor Competition Book

SCI-Arc is pleased to announce the launch of its recent publication, the Cleantech Corridor, An Open Ideas Competition, which documents the school's latest competition centered on the newly established Los Angeles Cleantech Corridor and Green District.

The open-ideas competition sponsored by the SCI-Arc Future Initiatives post-graduate program in partnership with The Architect's Newspaper took place in fall 2010 and challenged entrants to use the competition as a forum for provocative, even revolutionary, reconceptualizations of LA's urban fabric.

Architects, landscape architects, designers, engineers, urban planners, students and environmental professionals were tasked with creating an innovative urban vision for the Cleantech Corridor—a 2,000-acre development zone on the eastern edge of downtown Los Angeles. Seventy entries were received from architectural firms and students in 11 countries including Austria, Britain, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Russia and the United States. The competition was presented with the Office of the Mayor and the Community Redevelopment Agency of the City of Los Angeles (CRA/LA), which established the Cleantech Corridor in the fall of 2008.

Edited by David Bergman and Peter Zellner, co-coordinators of the SCI-Arc Future Initiative program, the competition book records the selected entries from the competition, and includes analysis and essays of this critical development opportunity, focusing on the transformative potential that green industries can have on the urban landscape.

Cleantech Corridor, An Open Ideas Competition retails for $24 and is available at the SCI-Arc Supply Store.
