On February 28, midway into the spring semester, SCI-Arc hosted the first event in its brand new Open Season series—a sequence of networking opportunities to introduce current students to SCI-Arc alumni in the professional design world. These drop-in, day-long events invite alumni representatives from firms to observe graduating students as they present their studio and thesis work to faculty and jurors. Each date begins with an informal networking reception between alumni and students, followed by the students' midterm presentations.
Among alumni who led the networking event which took place on campus last week were Alexander Webb (MArch ‘06) formerly of Marmol Radziner and currently with Rail LA, Steven Purvis (MArch ‘06) of Jones, Partners: Architecture, and Tima Bell (MArch ‘00) of Tima Winter Inc. Design.
Alumni who served as guest critics for midterm reviews included Barbara Bestor (MArch '92), principal of Bestor Architecture and chair of the new Graduate School of Architecture at Woodbury University, Cara Lee (MArch '96) of Lee+Mundwiler Architects, and John Umbanhowar (MArch ‘98) of Hughes Umbanhowar Architects.
The next Open Season event is scheduled on Friday, March 25.
