Elastic Plastic Sponge, the result of a SCI-Arc studio led by alumni Benjamin Ball (B.Arch '94) and Gaston Nogues (B.Arch '93) of Ball-Nogues Studio is included in the Spontaneous Schooling exhibition at the London Festival of Architecture June 19 - July 4.
Hosted at the NOUS Gallery in London, the exhibition will showcase the outcomes of 86 architectural workshops around the world.
In spring 2009, SCI-Arc students led by Ball and Nogues developed an iconic architectural installation for the 2009 Coachella Music Festival. In the desert heat of Indio, the large scale structure was twisted, arched and curled to form different types of space including a lounge, a theater, and a large sculptural strip. At night, the installation's fluorescent tubes shifted in orientation to create the effect of sweeping motion.
Images of the Elastic Plastic Sponge will be on view at Spontaneous Schooling. At the opening on June 18, organizers will host a discussion about the future of workshops and their role in the discipline.
The NOUS Gallery is located at 3.01 Tea Building, 5-13 Bethnal Road, London. Opening times and other details can be found at www.nousgallery.com.
