Step Up on 5th, a Santa Monica apartment building for the homeless and mentally ill designed by Pugh + Scarpa Architects, is one of the winners in the 'specialized housing' category of the 2010 AIA National Housing Awards for Architecture. The housing project was featured in LA Times's Home section in April 2009, in a cover article on thoughtful housing for the formerly homeless. The AIA jury praised the design's “elegance for the underprivileged.”
